With DVD player ownership declining across the world, the time has come to phase out the PADI® Open Water Diver Video – DVD version. PADI Members can now purchase a digital version of the Open Water Diver Video for students to access anytime, anywhere using a computer or mobile device.
Each video corresponds to a section of the Open Water Diver Manual. This allows students to easily alternate between reading the manual and watching videos. For example, Section One has three parts:

How to send Open Water Diver Video to students digitally
The next time you have a non-eLearning student who needs to watch the Open Water Diver Video, here are the steps to take:
Step 1: Purchase an Open Water Diver Video digital code
Step 2: Visit the PADI Pros’ Site and click on Online Services → Online Processing Center
Step 3: Look under Manage Codes → Assign Codes and assign the code to a student using the email address provided (the same way you give access to other digital products).
Here’s how students access and view their Open Water Diver Video:
- The student will receive an email with a link to access their Open Water Diver Video via PADI eLearning® for Students.
- Clicking the link takes the student to the PADI login page. The student may also go directly to PADI.com and sign in/create an account using the email address provided.
Note: Please allow a few minutes to pass between purchasing the code and having the student login to redeem. - Once signed in, the student should scroll to the Redeem Your Access Code section and click to redeem their access code for the Open Water Diver Video.
- It will take about 10 seconds for the product to load.
- Once the product loads, the student can refresh the page, select a video and click Continue to start viewing.
Online vs. Offline Viewing
The best way to view the Open Water Diver Video is with a desktop or mobile device connected to the internet. No app required. All the student has to do is log on to PADI eLearning for Students using a web or mobile browser. If the student expects to be without internet (while commuting or traveling, for example) they may download and view video content offline using the PADI Training app.
How to download videos for offline viewing
Students must redeem their code before any videos can be downloaded for offline viewing. After redeeming the code, students should ensure they have a strong internet connection, and follow the steps below:
Step 1: Download the PADI Training App for Android™or Apple® iOS
Step 2: Open the app and login (username and password are the same as PADI eLearning)
Step 3: Select the appropriate product and language
Step 4: Select Continue Course button
Step 5: Select the + or expand icon to show all components in the section
Step 6: Choose videos to download and view offline
Open Water Diver Video content can be downloaded in sections with a total file size of approximately 1.4 GB. The “download all” option is not available.

What languages are available?
English launches in April 2020. Additional languages will be added until all the languages currently supported by the Open Water Diver Video– DVD are converted to the new delivery platform.

Yes, for the English version, select the [CC] symbol to turn on closed captioning. Other languages will be added in the future.
How long will the Open Water Diver Video – DVD be available?
Until the current supply is exhausted.
Do students need the PADI Training app to watch videos?
No. If the student has an internet connection, the PADI Training app is not needed to watch videos. The app is only required if the student wants to watch videos while offline.
Can students stream videos from the PADI Training app?
No, the PADI Training app is not a streaming app. It’s designed for viewing content offline.
Can students access the digital video product through the PADI Library app?
No, the new digital video product can only be accessed and downloaded for offline viewing by using the PADI Training app.
What devices are supported?
For online viewing, any internet-connected device (desktop, laptop, tablet, phone) will work. For offline viewing, the student needs an Android or Apple device, ideally not more than three models old with the latest operating system.
