Effective immediately, the PADI Freediver Program has expanded to include three new courses and one updated course.

Freediver Specialty Courses

Two new specialty courses related to dynamic apnea are now available for interested PADI Freediver Instructors to offer those certified as PADI Basic Freedivers (or qualifying certification) or higher.

NEW – Dynamic Bi-Fins (DYNb)

The PADI DYNb Freediver Distinctive Specialty course teaches freedivers how to improve their dynamic apnea attempts while using bi-fins. The course builds on techniques already learned in the core PADI Freediver program, but with a focus on technique improvement as well as establishing clear guidelines for improvement.

NEW – Dynamic No Fins (DNF)

The goals of the PADI DNF Freediver Distinctive Specialty course are to develop a freediver’s practical knowledge of the DNF discipline and how to train and improve a freediver’s DNF technique, both on land and in the water.

Updated – Constant Weight No-Fins (CNF)

The existing Constant Weight No-Fins Freediver Distinctive Specialty course has been revised and updated. This course can be offered to PADI Freedivers (or qualifying certification) or higher. The goal of the PADI Constant Weight No-Fins Freediver Distinctive Specialty course is to familiarize freedivers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and enjoyment of no-fins constant weight freediving in open water.

PADI Freediver Instructors who wish to become authorized to teach these courses can download the Specialty Course Instructor Guides at no charge from the PADI Pros’ Site and then submit a PADI Freediver Specialty Instructor application form (10338) to their PADI Regional Headquarters. The application should be completed as a Method Three type and proof of qualifying training/experience should accompany the application. PADI Freediver Instructor Trainers (ITs) who wish to offer specialty instructor training in these courses can apply to become Specialty Instructor Trainers in each.

NEW – PADI Advanced Freediver Instructor Course

The third new course is the PADI Advanced Freediver Instructor course. Teaching status PADI Freediver ITs can offer this course to PADI Freediver Instructors either as part of the PADI Freediver Instructor Training Course, or as a separate program to existing PADI Freediver Instructors. Completion of the PADI Advanced Freediver Instructor course allows a PADI Freediver Instructor to apply for the PADI Advanced Freediver Instructor level without having issued 25 freediver certifications.

PADI Freediver ITs interested in offering this course can download the PADI Advanced Freediver Instructor Course Guide from the PADI Pros’ Site and begin to offer the course.

To support the PADI Advanced Freediver Instructor course, the PADI Freediver Instructor (10416) and Advanced/Master Freediver Instructor (10403) applications have been also been revised and are available on the PADI Pros’ Site.

Currently all the above-mentioned courses are available in English with translations to follow over time.
