We share your obsession for creating positive ocean change.

You are part of the largest global community of dive businesses and pros who lead the charge to protect the ocean with every certification issued.

With the support of Blancpain, official partner of the PADI Blueprint for Ocean Action and founding partner of Adopt the Blue, PADI AWARE continues to invest in and activate community members to Adopt the Blue. The program aims to accelerate the establishment of MPAs for protection and conservation by providing multiple pathways for PADI Dive Centers, Resorts, Professionals, Divers, and other ocean enthusiasts to get actively involved in conservation at both the local and global level. In 2023, we reached 2,000 Adopt the Blue sites, the critical mass needed to begin deeper engagement into the largest network of underwater sites for conservation action.

Parallel to this, PADI Eco Centers are a driving force in ocean conservation. These centers are recognized by PADI for their dedication to marine biodiversity, community resilience and dive industry sustainability. Thanks to the Adopt the Blue program, PADI Eco Centers actively promote conservation through citizen science, policy advocacy, and education. Furthermore, by working with PADI’s partner, The Reef-World Foundation’s Green Fins Initiative, PADI Eco Centers operate with world-leading environmental best-practice. They have reduced their environmental footprints by embedding sustainability throughout their businesses.

But the work doesn’t stop there. To date, PADI divers have reported 2.3+ million pieces of marine debris, using the world’s largest underwater marine debris database. All PADI Pros (Assistant Instructors and above) are now automatically enabled to teach the Dive Against Debris course, and these actions sit alongside continued campaigning to end plastic pollution for good as we actively participate in the United Nations debate around the Global Plastic Treaty.

What does this mean for you?

As well as being part of a global movement to protect our blue planet, as a PADI Member, you can benefit from the global measures put in place. Supporting positive change in ocean conservation is the right thing to do, but it’s also a smart business choice, as more and more consumers actively seek eco-friendly dive operators and experiences. The most recent Green Fins survey reported that 85% of divers indicated they find it hard to see if a resort is sustainable, while 83% want education on sustainability and protecting marine life on vacation. There is a broad range of options open to you, from teaching conservation courses to organizing events or becoming an Eco Center, all of which speak to this large proportion of eco-conscious divers and will support you in driving future business.
