Emergency First Response® would like to congratulate the following Emergency Responders who put their training into action when called upon to offer assistance.

In Russia

Emergency Responder: Yuriy Vopilov

Action: Vopilov was walking down the street when he saw a girl riding a scooter. As she passed, he saw that she had an epileptic seizure, fell and hit her head on the pavement. Though he felt like he’d forgotten all his skills and was nervous to make contact, Vopilov approached the victim, introduced himself and got permission to help. He turned her on her side, put a soft cloth under her head, checked her breathing and heartbeat, then called for emergency medical services. He stayed next to the victim to make sure she controlled her breathing until EMS arrived.

EFR Instructor: Lilia Vinogradova (#295238)

In Australia

Emergency Responder: Mark Davies

Action: Owner-instructor of Karma Dives, Davies saw a gyroplane crash land on a beach on Fraser Island, Queensland, 50 metres/150 feet from where he was helping clients board a boat. Steeling himself against the flames and smoke, Davies dragged the male victim away from the fiery wreckage. The victim appeared to be unconscious, but Davies performed AB-CABS; the victim was breathing and gained consciousness soon after, just before emergency services arrived. The victim was treated for spine, chest and limb injuries on the beach, and airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital.

EFR Instructor Trainer: Jason Orage (#495101)

In Morocco

Emergency Responder: Joe Read

Action: While waiting to check in for his flight departing Marrakesh, a man in front of Read went into cardiac arrest. Other passengers standing in line shouted for people trained in CPR to come forward and help. Read stepped to the front and, along with a nurse who was also in line, provided CPR. (She later commended him on his skill level and on his calm, yet “do something” attitude.) Unfortunately, with no emergency services at the airport, the pair’s efforts were not successful, and the victim died.
