The PADI Discover Scuba® Diving Participant Guide has long been a key tool for PADI® Instructors when teaching their Discover Scuba Diving (DSD®) participants. It covers all the key information the participants need to know prior to the experience, ensures all the relevant forms are completed, and serves as a record of their experience.

But it is so much more than that …

The Participant Guide is a powerful tool to help you convert your divers to carry on and complete the PADI Open Water Diver course with you. Here are some tips to use the booklet to its full effect and help with your conversions.

When you complete the DSD, make reviewing the last pages of the booklet part of your debrief. This way you can:

• Explain the first step in completing the PADI Open Water Diver course.
• Sign off the training record in the booklet, and if applicable, show they have completed the skills from the Confined Water Dive 1 of the PADI Open Water Diver course.
• Highlight the www.padi.com/discovermore link which will show them a sneak peek of the PADI Open Water Diver course.
Ensure you obtain participants permission to be opted in to PADI mailings, and that you have their correct email address.

This last point is one which is not to be overlooked. When you process experiences in the PADI Online Processing Center, if the participant has given their permission, you should ensure that you tick the box to say that they wish to receive PADI communications. By doing so, you unlock the full potential of PADI Marketing which is in place to help your business succeed. When opted in, Discover Scuba Diving participants receive several emails specifically designed to show them how to take their next step, and drive them back to you to complete their PADI Open Water Diver certification.
