Since 15 April 2020, all new PADI® student divers and members have been receiving new ratings and credentials within 24 hours via a PADI electronic certification card, the PADI eCard™. The PADI eCard provides a quicker, convenient process and avoids potential postal delays for PADI Members and divers. The PADI eCard™ also helps protect and preserve our ocean planet by reducing the use of plastic.
The type of certification card student divers and members receive by default – either a physical card or an eCard – will vary based on region. This applies to all new certifications, but does not affect the replacement card process.
Which card will student divers and members receive?

- All student divers receiving new certifications and members with new ratings and credentials issued in the PADI Asia Pacific or PADI Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions will be issued eCards. Divers can choose to purchase a physical certification card in addition to the eCard for an additional fee via Replacement Card Online.
- New certifications for student divers and members issued with a certification location outside of the PADI Asia Pacific and PADI EMEA service territories will continue to receive a physical certification card.
In a commitment to better environmental practices, physical PADI certification cards will be made from 70 percent recycled plastic.
