New 10 Tips for Divers to Protect the Ocean Planet

I recently asked Domino Albert (New Media Specialist, Project AWARE Foundation) about what practical tips, we as divers, could do to protect our amazing Ocean Planet and she kindly wrote the following article and even included the link to the new Project AWARE’s 10 Tips for Divers to Protect the Ocean Planet.

To adapt to the ever increasing and shifting threats to the environment as well as changes in the way we travel and learn to dive, Project AWARE is giving a facelift to its popular 10 Tips.

The health of the world’s oceans is deteriorating even faster than had previously been thought, a report announced in 2013 – the latest audit by an international team of marine scientists at the International Programme on the State of the Ocean (IPSO) found that the world’s oceans and marine life are facing an unprecedented threat from a combination of pollution, global warming and climate change, and overfishing. When updating the Project AWARE philosophy and the popular 10 Ways a Diver Can Protect the Underwater Environment, it was important to focus on top ocean issues globally – specifically where individual scuba divers can make a difference when they travel, dive, photograph and more.

As scuba divers, we are privileged to experience first-hand the beauty and wonders of the ocean. With such privilege, comes the responsibility to protect it. Ocean protection starts with you, us, all of us and it can be as easy as following the new Project AWARE’s 10 Tips for Divers to Protect the Ocean Planet.

Follow and share these tips with your student divers to support the movement of divers protecting the ocean one dive at a time. Download the full version of the new 10 Tips and stay tuned to upcoming calls to action to help Project AWARE spread the word. Thank you for doing your part to protect the ocean and taking these tips to heart each time you dive or train divers.
